TRAUMA

Trauma is described as a deeply distressing or disturbing event. Often times, people think of trauma, their initial thoughts are of PTSD and military veterans. Trauma can also include a party involved in a car accident, a robbery victim, even learning that a spouse has cheated. We allow each individual to define their own trauma, because what affects one person negatively may not affect the next person in the same way. Experiencing a traumatic experience may result in emotional and physical symptoms that affects day to day life. These symptoms might include, shock, anger, irritability, guilt, shame, hopelessness, depression, anxiety, shortness of breath, sleeplessness, and/ or a change in appetite. Using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I assist clients in processing trauma, with the goal of being able to reconcile and move forward without hinderance.
